Now, something that needs to be done on a regular basis is changing your furnace filters. The Air Conditioning air and the Furnace Air gets ran through this filter. If the filter is full it will take more energy and your Furnace and A/C will have to work harder to reach the set temperature of the thermostat. If your Furnace and A/C have to work harder than actually needed they will end up needing to be replaced sooner rather than later.
For example, breathe through a straw. It's pretty hard after about 5 breaths. Now, if you continued to breathe through a straw it would wear you down pretty fast and you would eventually need a nap after about an hour of straw breathing. Now, just think of the extra work your Furnace and A/C unit will have to do to 'breath' through that air filter. So, if you want to save money in the long run by making your Furnace and A/C unit last longer AND save energy during the month. Change it on a regular basis. It will say on the outside of the furnace filter how often to change it.
Just a quick tip, you do not need to buy the expensive Furnace Filters. The expensive ones work just as good as the inexpensive ones. And, make sure that you use the right size of furnace filter. Do not do like I did and accidentally, buy the wrong size!! It will not work as good if you put the wrong filter inside the furnace. Just incase you were wondering. :)
I found this pretty awesome site where you can actually buy washable furnace filters for your furnace, located to the left!
