Cutting Short Hair one length

Conair Barber Shears
Something that I do to save money is to cut my families hair.  And, then I go to the salon to get my hair cut twice a year.  Eventually, I will teach my husband how to cut my hair and I will not have to pay for haircuts at all.  The best part about cutting your kids hair is you are 'allowed' to make mistakes when they are little.  You are able to learn from your mistakes and as they get older you will become better as they get older.  Honestly, I do not cut their hair all the time.  'E' and 'T' do not like their hair cut, so, I cut it as much as I can.  Now, my husband loves it when I cut his hair.  He tells me all the time how much better it feels when his hair cut.

Ok, so a couple of tips when cutting hair all one length.  The first thing you need to do is part the hair down the middle and make sure that the hair is completely straight.  I personally, like to start in the back of the hair since the back of the hair is the hardest.  The reason I say it's the hardest is because if you do not have them put their head down and down pretty far, their hair is different lengths.  The reason for this is because when you are holding the hair between your fingers when it is that short the bottom layer of hair is being pulled forward and the top layer of hair is being pulled straight.  This makes the bottom layers of the hair longer than the top layers of hair.

Then, carefully move to the right cutting the hair the same length as the hair you have already cut.  The best way to do this is to always keep part of the hair that you have already cut with hair that has not been cut yet.  Go all the way to the right, and then go back to the back of the hair and repeat down the left side of the head.  Remember, this cut is all one length.

Now, when you have cut all of the hair you need to go to the face part and comb the hair forward. The reason for this is to make sure that the hair on one side of the head is the same length as the other side of the head. Comb the hair forward and compare the two sides of the head.  If the hair on the left side is a different length than the right side (which they will be unless you are perfect) cut the longer side first.  And, make your way all the way around the head one more time.

A couple of tips when doing this:
1.  The hair will shorten when it dries so try not to go too short.
2.  You can always cut the hair shorter, but you CANNOT glue it back on!!!!
3.  For really short scissor cut hair you cannot go completely to the hairline, you have to leave about a finger width of length unless you intend to shave the back of their neck.
