The other day my mom was here and she usually does something special with my daughter 'E' while she is here. This time she made yarn bracelets with her. Actually, she had 'E' crochet them and she tied them off. Now 'E' is making them like crazy to give to everyone. Her goal is to make hundreds of them and sell them to people for a QUARTER a piece. I love her resourceful thinking.
Anyway, the first thing you have to do is tie the yarn into a hole. This way you can put the hook through the hole. Now this is where it seems complicated but once you do it a few times it is actually really easy. If you have never crocheted before do not worry!! Read through the steps first and look at the pictures. Personally, I would try this before working with your young one. They might get discouraged if it does not work out.
Step #1
Once you have your hole made you put the crochet hook through the hole. Take the yarn and wrap it around the top part of the crochet hook right under the hook part of your hook. Make sure that you have a slightly tight hold on the yarn coming from the Skein of yarn. If your hold is too loose your links will be bigger, if your hold is too tight you will not be able to pull the hook through the loops.
Step #2
Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull it through the loops as many times needed to make a bracelet long enough to put on someone's wrist. The bigger the wrist the more loops, the smaller the less loops.
Step #3
Once your bracelet is long enough cut the yarn from the Skein of yarn giving yourself two inches to tie off.
You will need to pull the leftover yarn through the hoop one last time. Grab a hold of the yarn once you pull it through the hoop with the hook. Pull tight to make sure that you tie it off.
Step #5
Now take the yarn from the start of the bracelet and the end of the bracelet and tie them together. Slip the bracelet on or put it on the person you made it for.
Now, 'E' is 7-years-old and it took her some time. This is pretty complicated for kids to learn so have a lot of patience while doing this. I highly suggest doing this with them for several bracelets so they do not feel overwhelmed by the process. Follow the visual steps below!!
